Raymond Marshall had hoped to endure another night in his sleeping quarters, a narrow tunnel near Agricola Street in north-end Halifax.

He spent four hours there Sunday night trying to withstand a nagging fever and the shakes. Realizing he was in trouble, the 59-year-old diabetic grabbed his belongings in garbage bags and headed for the Halifax Infirmary’s emergency room.

Marshall’s blood sugar level was dangerously low and he had pneumonia. After overnighting in the hospital, he was back on the streets of downtown Halifax Monday morning
