A new location for a temporary homeless shelter has been approved by Chatham-Kent council, despite opposition from neighbours and some council members.

Before a report recommending the shelter be moved to Chatham Banquet Hall and Conference Centre on Merritt Avenue from the current location at the John D. Bradley Centre was presented during council’s Aug. 10 meeting, a letter – signed by more than 50 neighbourhood residents opposing the new location – was read to council.

“It is alarming that no written notification about this proposal was given,” the letter said.
