The Ontario government is providing $1.2 million to convert the former Ontario Provincial Police station in North Bay into 16 housing units for the city’s homeless.

A media release from the province says the funding will transform the privately owned former station — called Gateway House — into 16 units, providing people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness the housing and support services they need.

“The new Gateway House will help to give those who are at the greatest risk a place to call home, with the supports they need,” Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli said in a statement.
