Advocates for those struggling to feed themselves and their families agree with a report stating Canada’s new official Food Guide is disconnected from real life.
Teams at Dalhousie University and the University of Guelph found more than 52 per cent of consumers surveyed face barriers following the guide’s recommendations. In the report, more than 26 per cent of people said they found affordability a major barrier and others cited taste preferences, lack of free time and dietary restrictions.
In the Guide updated in January, Health Canada now recommends making water the drink of choice, eating plenty of vegetables and fruits, whole grain foods and protein foods
