An elevator at a four-storey affordable housing building at 40 Queen St. that has been out of service since late April is a “completely unacceptable” situation, says a city councillor.

“I don’t expect this to be the end of it once the repairs are completed,” said Ward 5 Coun. Brian Van Tilborg.

“No one is happy. I don’t want to see us in such a situation ever again.

“While we are doing what we can, there is no doubt in my mind that the residents feel like they are powerless and voiceless.”

Maryellen MacLellan, the city’s director of housing, said the elevator, out of service since an electrical fire in a control room cabinet, is expected to be repaired by the first week of September.
