The County of Simcoe is on target to achieve 2, 685 affordable housing units by 2024.

Part way through the first implementation phase, 544 new affordable housing units have been created since 2014, and Arfona Zwiers, Director of Social Housing, says the County is ahead of the game, even after taking into account things like population growth.

The 10-year Affordable Housing and Homelessness Prevention Strategy involves the County and the cities of Orillia and Barrie.

Zwiers says units are created through new construction, secondary suites, affordable home ownership and rent supplements.
