“I understand people may be worried about maintaining what (benefits) they have,” he said. “But, they are in control. Taking part is their decision, and if they decide a month later they don’t want to continue, they can opt out; their benefits would be restored. They would not miss any payments.
“It is guaranteed they won’t be caught in any gap … because missing a payment could mean they can’t pay the rent.”
He added staff at the open enrolment sessions will answer any questions and explain the program to ensure people understand what they are signing up for.
“It is informed consent.”
“(Participants) aren’t just getting a cheque,” he said.
